Their bomber never came back. All twelve men aboard were killed, and in 1950 they were buried together at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Nebraska.

KNOWOL restored this print from the National Archives' scan of the original U.S. Army Air Forces photo (342-FH-3A34889-75594AC). It's printed edge to edge on ultra premium luster photo paper, a popular choice for fine photographic prints. Luster has a finish between gloss and matte and takes a heavy layer of ink, so the tones come out rich and deep.

The story behind this photo: read the full history in the KNOWOL library, with the names and hometowns of all twelve men and the sources for every fact.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/2219/9779/files/knowol-pilchard-b-29-crew-india-1944-vintage-photo-1.jpg?v=1792527085
