The image depicts the União Portuguesa do Estado da Califórnia (UPEC) building in San Leandro, California. Established in 1880, UPEC serves Portuguese-Americans and fosters cultural heritage. In April 1942, this photograph was created and later transferred by the United States Office of War Information in 1944. UPEC had 1,735 members, contributing to the communitys cultural fabric in Alameda County.
