This linen postcard captures the Bay Bridge Motel along U.S. Highways 50 & 301, seven miles east of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Grasonville, Maryland. A roadside stop in Queen Anne's County on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Grasonville sits in a region long shaped by the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, where travelers have passed through on their way to and from the shore for generations.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, "linen" postcards earned their name from the textured, fabric-like card stock that gave them their soft, painterly color. Many of the finest were issued by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing back the warmth and detail of the original.
