This vintage postcard captures the Hopkins Furniture Company in Annapolis, Maryland, a glimpse of the commercial life that bustled through this historic port city during the 1930s and early 1940s. Founded in 1649 and home to the United States Naval Academy since 1845, Annapolis served as the nation's capital for a brief period in 1783 and 1784, lending its tree-lined streets and brick storefronts a deep sense of American heritage.
From roughly 1930 to 1945, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their textured paper stock and vivid, saturated colors. This edition comes from the celebrated work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose images are preserved today in the renowned Tichnor Brothers Collection. It has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original warmth and detail.
