This vintage linen postcard captures a striking line-up of anti-aircraft guns at the Ordnance Training Center in Aberdeen, Maryland, a scene of military readiness from roughly 1930 to 1945. The image reflects the work of Aberdeen Proving Ground, the U.S. Army installation established in Harford County in 1917 that became a leading center for testing ordnance and training soldiers through both World Wars.
Postcards like this one belong to the golden age of American "linen" cards, named for the textured, fabric-like paper that gave the prints their warm, painterly color.
