This restored linen postcard captures Maryland State Teachers College in Salisbury, Maryland, the seat of Wicomico County on the Eastern Shore. The college, which opened in 1925 to train teachers for the region, grew over the decades into the institution known today as Salisbury University, making this view a window onto the early days of higher education in the heart of the Delmarva Peninsula.
From roughly 1930 to 1945, American printers produced "linen" postcards on textured, fabric-like paper that gave images their soft, saturated glow. This card comes from the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection, published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, one of the most prolific names of the era. KNOWOL has carefully restored and color-revived this edition, bringing back the warmth and detail of the original.
