This vintage linen postcard captures a quiet road curving above a waterway in Maryland, the gentle bend of the river framed by the open road. Known as the "Old Line State," Maryland is shaped by water — from the broad reaches of the Chesapeake Bay to the countless rivers and tidal inlets that have carried commerce, travelers, and everyday life across the region for centuries.
Postcards like this one date to the golden age of American "linen" postcards, roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, when their textured paper stock and vivid inks brought scenes like this to life. This edition comes from the celebrated work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, preserved today in the Tichnor Brothers Collection. It has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original warmth and detail.
