Set on the shores of Anne Arundel County, the scene captures the easygoing pleasures of an American beach day. Annapolis, founded in the 17th century and the capital of Maryland, sits where the Severn River meets the Chesapeake Bay, a waterfront city long defined by its connection to the water.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, "linen" postcards reached their golden age, named for the textured, fabric-like paper that gave their bright inks a soft, painterly glow. This card was published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work is preserved today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing back the warmth and vivid hues of the original.
