This restored linen postcard captures the administrative building at the Ordnance Training Center in Aberdeen, Maryland, a scene from the years between roughly 1930 and 1945. The town sits in Harford County along the upper Chesapeake Bay, and it became closely tied to the U.S. Army when Aberdeen Proving Ground was established there in 1917 as a center for testing ordnance and training soldiers , a role that shaped the community for generations.
From the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, printed on textured card stock that gave colors a soft, vivid glow. This edition comes from the work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose images are preserved today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. It has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original warmth and detail.
