About Afono, American Samoa

People have lived at Afono for at least 1000 years. Senator Mata'utia Tautunu championed a mountain road from Aua to the village in the late 1960s. Extended on to Vatia, it became the longest and costliest secondary road in American Samoa. By 1998 it was the main entrance to the national park on Tutuila.
