This restored linen postcard offers an "Airplane view" of Ocean City, Maryland, looking down on the seaside resort town from above. Set on a barrier island along Maryland's Atlantic coast in Worcester County, Ocean City has welcomed summer visitors since the 19th century, drawn by its long beach, boardwalk, and the steady roll of the ocean.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, named for the textured, fabric-like paper that gave their bright inks such a distinctive glow. This view comes from the storied Tichnor Brothers Collection, published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, and has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL.
