About Allenwood, Pennsylvania

John McCurdy laid out the village on June 1, 1815, as Uniontown. Its post office went by White Deer, Slifer and Cairo before taking the name Allenwood. That name honored H. P. Allen. Allen laid out an addition of eighty lots in the year the Catawissa and Williamsport Railroad came through.

The Allenwood Lumber Company ran mills near the mouth of White Deer Hole Creek. H. P. Allen was one of its four members. The mills could cut forty thousand feet a day.
