About Altus, Arkansas

From the CALS Encyclopedia of Arkansas: "In 1872, Jacob Post immigrated to the United States from Baden-Baden, Germany. Failing to successfully grow grapes in Illinois, he searched for another location. He was told by monks from Subiaco Abbey that Arkansas had the ideal climate for growing grapes. Post settled in the hills near Altus and began planting vineyards."
