This vintage linen postcard captures the amusement and picnic grounds of Sparrow's Beach, Inc., a lively summer destination along the water near Annapolis, Maryland. Set in Anne Arundel County, Annapolis has served as Maryland's capital since 1694 and is home to the United States Naval Academy, founded there in 1845 , a city where Chesapeake Bay life and history have long gone hand in hand.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, "linen" postcards enjoyed a golden age, their textured paper stock and bright, saturated inks lending everyday scenes a cheerful glow. This card was published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original warmth and detail.
