About Atwater, Ohio
By May 28, 1851, about eight miles of track had been laid between Ravenna and Atwater. The track went down at half a mile a day. Before the end of June, a passenger car on the construction train was making daily trips to Atwater and Alliance. The last rail completing the line to Wellsville, on the Ohio River, was laid on February 14, 1852.
Two newspapers were started at Atwater. The Sharp Sickle was published by a man named Hicks until his death in 1879. The Atwater News first came out in July 1884, but it was printed at Alliance. The Atwater post office charged full postage on it, so the paper closed after a few issues.
