This vintage linen postcard captures the bustling bathing beach and oceanfront hotels of Ocean City, Maryland, a Worcester County resort town on the Atlantic shore. Founded in the 1870s as a seaside getaway, Ocean City grew into one of the mid-Atlantic's most beloved beach destinations, where visitors strolled the boardwalk and lined up along the sand within sight of the grand hotels that rose just beyond the dunes.
From roughly 1930 to 1945, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, printed on textured card stock that gave their colors a warm, painterly glow. This edition comes from the celebrated Tichnor Brothers of Boston, whose vivid cards documented towns across the country. The original has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing back the brightness it had when it first crossed a postal counter.
