About Big Flats, Wisconsin
On May 5, 2005, a man burning dead grass in Big Flats let a fire escape its ring. The Cottonville Forest Fire burned about 3,410 acres and destroyed 30 homes. About 177 firefighters from 20 departments battled it until it was contained 11 hours later. It was the largest Wisconsin forest fire since 1980.
