This restored vintage postcard offers a sweeping bird's-eye view of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, the historic capital that has sat along the Severn River in Anne Arundel County since the seventeenth century. Founded in 1845, the Naval Academy is the undergraduate college of the U.S. Navy, and its grand Beaux-Arts campus , known to generations of midshipmen as "the Yard" , has long been one of Annapolis's most recognizable landmarks.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their textured paper stock and bright, saturated colors. This edition was published by Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work is preserved today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. KNOWOL has carefully restored and color-revived this image so it can be enjoyed for years to come.
