About Blue Ball, Pennsylvania
On August 27, 1766, Robert Wallace bought twelve acres here from Jacob Weaver. He became a storekeeper where the old Paxtang and Horseshoe roads met. Soon he built a tavern and opened it at the Sign of the Blue Ball. He sold it to Peter Grim in 1778, and for many years it was a noted crossroads inn.
The Presbyterian church now at Cedar Grove was first organized at Blue Ball in 1775. For several years, people worshiped outdoors in a grove, with a platform for the minister. In 1787 the congregation bought land at Cedar Grove for thirteen dollars and thirty-three cents. The church built there served without change until 1853.
