About Brunersburg, Ohio
Brunersburg on the Tiffin River was once a vigorous rival of Defiance. It had the only grist mill in that part of the state. Dams were built to power factories planned for the town. Backers also built a steamboat and bridges. Once so prosperous, it had shrunk to a very small village by 1917.
On October 25, 1836, a settler and his party stayed at Mr. Gardenhire's tavern in Brunersburg. Supper was corn bread, venison and coffee without sugar or cream. Breakfast was the same. They could buy no bread, crackers or other provisions in the town.
