About Burdick, Kansas

Burdick began in 1880 as Linsdale, a Swedish settlement. Its first families came from Henry and Mercer counties in Illinois. In 1887 the railroad arrived, and the town was renamed Burdick. The new name honored Miss Burdick. She was the sweetheart of an official with the Santa Fe Railroad.

The Santa Fe Trail passed about three miles north of Burdick. A large stone stage station called Six Mile Stage Station stood there as a rest stop. The Daughters of the American Revolution dedicated a marker at the site in 1908.
