This vintage linen postcard captures the Cadillac Motel along U.S. Route 301 in Waldorf, Maryland, a roadside scene from the era when motels welcomed travelers driving the open highways of the Eastern Seaboard. Once a small crossroads in Charles County, Waldorf grew up alongside Route 301, a major north–south corridor that carried motorists between the Washington, D.C. area and points south, making it a natural home for motels like this one.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their textured finish and vivid, saturated colors. This edition comes from the catalog of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. It has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back the brightness of the original.
