About Canadian Shores, Oklahoma

Canadian Shores is a small lake community in the north of Pittsburg County. It lies just south of the Canadian River, at the edge of Eufaula Lake. Highway 113 runs along its south side, 2 miles east of Indianola. The county seat, McAlester, is 20 miles to the south.

The lake next door began with a vote in Washington. In 1946 Congress said yes to a plan to dam the Canadian River and build Lake Eufaula. The lake that came of it covers 102,200 surface acres and has six hundred miles of shoreline. Most of its water lies in McIntosh and Pittsburg counties.

  • A lake approved in 1946Congress wanted the lake to do many jobs. It would hold back floods on the Canadian River and store water. It would also make electric power, help boats on the river and give people a place to play. Small parts of the lake reach into Haskell and Okmulgee counties.
  • Crappie, bass, catfish and walleyeThe lake was stocked with crappie, bass, catfish and walleye. Fishermen and other sportsmen have come to Eufaula since the very start.
  • 233 people in 2020The Census Bureau first listed Canadian Shores as a census-designated place just before the 2020 census. That count found 233 people living here.
