In June 1942, construction of the Douglas Dam begins on the French Broad River in Tennessee. Standing 161 feet high and 1,682 feet long, this dam creates a reservoir with a capacity of about 1,330,000 acre-feet. It supports power generation and the construction industry during World War II, providing nearly 100,000 kilowatts in dry conditions.
