From Warren Upham's 1920 Minnesota Geographic Names: "Clara City, a railway village on the line of Rheiderland and Stoneham, founded in 1887, was named in honor of the wife of Theodor F. Koch, one of the managers for a Holland syndicate buying farm lands and establishing colonies here."
