About Cogdell, Georgia
When Cogdell began, there was no school for several miles. In 1915 Mr. Sessoms and John B. Kirkland led a drive for a new school district centered on Cogdell. A schoolhouse went up right away. The trustees had no money yet, so Sessoms paid the bills until a tax could be raised.
After visiting the new Cogdell school, State School Supervisor F. E. Land praised the work of local citizens. He called it one of the finest school demonstrations he had seen.
