This restored linen postcard captures the Commander Hotel in Ocean City, Maryland, a welcoming seaside scene from an era when the resort drew visitors to its sands and boardwalk along the Atlantic. Set on a barrier island in Worcester County, Ocean City was first laid out as a beach resort in the 1870s and grew into one of the mid-Atlantic's favorite summer destinations.
From the 1930s through the 1940s, "linen" postcards reached their golden age, named for the textured, fabric-like paper that gave their bright inks a soft, painterly glow. This edition comes from the Tichnor Brothers Collection, originally published in Boston, and has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL.
