About Connelly Springs, North Carolina
From the North Carolina Gazetteer: "Connelly Springs town in E central Burke County on Island Creek approx. 2 mi. E of Valdese. Settled before the Civil War and named Happy Home. Later, the Connelly family developed a resort there around mineral springs. Named for Mrs. William L. Connelly. Inc. 1920."
From the Town of Connelly Springs: "Re-incorporation efforts for the Town of Connelly Springs began in the 1980s under the direction of long-time resident Dennis W. Tomlinson. The majority of Connelly Springs residents aimed to preserve the history and heritage of their once-famous vacation resort and prevent annexation by surrounding municipalities."
