This restored vintage linen postcard captures the Del Haven Hotel & Cottages, set along U.S. Route 1 just one mile north of Bel Air, Maryland , a roadside haven from the era when motor travel was opening up the American landscape. As the seat of Harford County, Bel Air has long sat near this historic corridor connecting Baltimore and points north and south, making it a natural stop for travelers in the years between roughly 1930 and 1945.
Postcards like this one date from the golden age of American "linen" cards, named for the textured, fabric-like paper that gave their colors such a warm, painterly glow. This edition comes from the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection of Boston, and has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back the brightness and detail time had faded.
