About East Marion, New York
Long ago, East Marion and Orient were called the Upper and Lower Necks of Oyster Ponds. In 1661 this land was surveyed and divided among its freeholders into lots of 50 acres from bay to sound. The Youngs family chose its shares in these necks. Their descendants still owned part of that land two centuries later.
East Marion was once called Rocky Point. John and Elizabeth Rackett settled there between 1685 and 1690, the first of their family in America. They were the ancestors of all the Rackett families in New York State.
