About Eastlawn Gardens, Pennsylvania
Eastlawn Gardens is a community of 3,435 people in Upper Nazareth Township, Northampton County, in the Lehigh Valley. It lies about 2 miles east of Nazareth and 2 miles west of Tatamy, and its teenagers attend Nazareth Area High School in Nazareth.
The area's oldest story belongs to the Moravians who settled Nazareth. They planned a new village called Schoeneck on the land behind their town, and by the close of 1762 it had a consecrated meeting hall and a congregation of its own.
- Lots for sale at SchoeneckThe Moravian surveyor George Wenceslaus Golkowsky drew up the plan for Schoeneck. He laid out lots in the new village behind Nazareth that settlers could buy, and the village took its name once the survey was done.
- A lovefeast in 1762On October 3, 1762, the Moravians consecrated Schoeneck's new meeting hall, called the Gemein-Saal. On November 28 they held a lovefeast, a shared meal of fellowship, which formally recognized Schoeneck as a congregation. That same year the Pentecost service was held there, and families from the outlying Moravian settlements made the village one of their favorite places to visit.
- Growing since 2010The census counted 3,307 people in Eastlawn Gardens in 2010. Ten years later the count had risen to 3,435.
