About Edwards, Colorado
Edwards is a community of 11,246 people in Eagle County, where Lake Creek flows into the Eagle River at the north end of the Sawatch Range. Two ranchers settled here in 1882, and for its first few years the place was known as Berry's Ranch.
A post office opened on July 10, 1883, the year after those first ranchers arrived. In 1887 the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad set up a station at the ranch, and the small settlement around it took a new name, Edwards.
- Named for Melvin EdwardsWhen the railroad station gave the settlement a new start in 1887, it dropped the Berry's Ranch name and took the name of Melvin Edwards, a resident of Red Cliff. Edwards went on to serve as Colorado's secretary of state.
- A college campus of 2,490Colorado Mountain College runs its Vail Valley campus in Edwards. In 2022 the campus enrolled 2,490 students, more than any other campus in the college.
- Four miles from Beaver CreekBeaver Creek Resort lies 4 miles east of Edwards, and Vail is 14.5 miles to the east, so the old ranch stop on the Eagle River now sits in the middle of ski country.
