About the Village of Elderon, Wisconsin
Elderon is a village of 161 people in Marathon County, Wisconsin. It takes its name from a grove of elder trees that once grew near the town site, and the name was later given to the surrounding town as well.
In the 1880s the Milwaukee, Lakeshore & Western Railroad laid a branch line into the township, and logging took off around the spot where the village stands today. Louis S. Jacobson, counted as Elderon's founder, came to the area in June 1899 and set up a logging camp there.
- A post office since 1888Mail has come to a post office called Elderon since 1888. That was more than a decade before Louis S. Jacobson built his logging camp in 1899, and the office has stayed open ever since.
- The Eldron State Bank, 1913A. J. Plowman organized the Eldron State Bank at the start of 1913. The county history published that same year recorded the new bank among the town's businesses.
- Franzen split off in 1904The town of Elderon once covered more ground than it does now. In 1904 part of it was organized as a separate town called Franzen.
