About Faga’itua, American Samoa
Faga'itua means bay behind in the Samoan language. By local tradition, a son of High Chief Lei'ato founded a second branch of the chiefly line here. Over time the Faga'itua branch rose to prominence. Its matai became the top high chief of all eastern Tutuila.
Faga'itua High School is the most rural and smallest high school in American Samoa. In 2018 its alumni association marked the school's 50th anniversary with a monument. A statue made on Tutuila shows a Viking warrior with his head turned toward the east and the Eastern Star.
