About Fairview, Tennessee

Fairview is a city of 9,357 people in the northwest corner of Williamson County, about twenty-five miles from downtown Nashville on State Highway 100. Residents made it a city on July 28, 1959, choosing a city manager and commission form of government under Tennessee law.

The town stands at an average of 800 feet above sea level. That puts it roughly 150 feet higher than Nashville and its nearby suburbs, so Fairview is less likely to flood than its neighbors.

  • Triangle School, 1939Before 1939, children around Fairview learned in small one-room schoolhouses, each run by a single teacher. That year Triangle School opened and brought those students and teachers together under one roof. The building joined the National Register in 2007.
  • Camp Marymount since 1946The Catholic Church opened Camp Marymount, a 340-acre retreat and summer camp, in the summer of 1946. Years later, film crews shot the camp scenes of Ernest Goes to Camp on its grounds.
  • 722 acres of Bowie Nature ParkBowie Nature Park covers roughly 722 acres, which makes it one of the largest parks run by a city anywhere in Tennessee. New York's Central Park, by comparison, covers 843 acres.
  • Fairview Ball Park, 1982The ball park opened in 1982 and has four fields. Local children play baseball and softball there in recreation leagues each spring and early summer, and adults take over for softball in the fall.
