This vintage postcard features the well-known Sandrock Wishing Well, a roadside landmark along the Annapolis dual highway near Severna Park, Maryland. Set in Anne Arundel County between Baltimore and the state capital of Annapolis, Severna Park grew as a community along the route that carried travelers down toward the Chesapeake Bay, and curiosities like this wishing well gave passing motorists a reason to pause along the way.
From roughly the 1930s into the 1940s, American travel was captured in vivid "linen" postcards, named for the textured paper stock that gave them their soft, painterly color. Many of the finest examples came from Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose work survives today in the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL, bringing back the warmth and detail of the original.
