About Fillmore, New York
This community was first known as the Mouth of the Creek. In 1850, it was renamed in honor of President Millard Fillmore. The old village later gave up its incorporation, and today it is a hamlet in the town of Hume.
The first settlers arrived here in 1836. The village stood at the mouth of Cold Creek until the state turned the stream's channel in 1839 and 1840. Mary Ann Ferguson taught the first school in the summer of 1841.
