This vintage linen postcard offers a sweeping vista from Division Hill at Fort George G. Meade in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, taking in the spread of military buildings and grounds that defined this storied Army post. Established during World War I and named for Major General George G. Meade, the Union commander at the Battle of Gettysburg, the installation grew into one of the most important training and support centers on the East Coast.
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American postcards entered their celebrated "linen" era, printed on textured card stock with the bright, saturated colors that gave the format its lasting charm. This edition comes from the work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose images endure today in the Tichnor Brothers Collection. It has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original warmth and clarity.
