This restored linen postcard captures a lively stretch of the Ocean City waterfront, featuring the George Washington Hotel, the Jackson Casino, and a crowded bathing beach along the Atlantic shore. Located on a barrier island in Worcester County, Maryland, Ocean City was incorporated in 1880 and grew into one of the state's most beloved seaside resort towns, drawing visitors to its sand, surf, and boardwalk attractions.
From roughly 1930 to 1945, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, prized for their textured finish and vivid, saturated colors. This edition comes from the work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose images live on today in the Tichnor Brothers Collection. We've carefully restored and color-revived this card at KNOWOL, bringing back the brightness it had when it was first printed.
