About Gerber, California
The town was laid out in 1910 and named for the Gerber family, who first owned its site. From 1916 to 1965 it was a division point on the Southern Pacific Railroad. Crews fueled and repaired steam locomotives here. After diesel engines replaced steam, the railroad slowly closed its operations in town.
