This restored linen postcard pictures Glen Echo Lodge, a roadside motel and automobile service station along U.S. Route 1 in Darlington, Maryland. The caption places it three miles south of the Conowingo Dam and eleven miles north of Bel Air , a fitting location, as the great Conowingo hydroelectric dam on the Susquehanna River was completed in 1928 and remains one of the largest of its kind on the East Coast.
Postcards like this one date from the golden age of American "linen" cards, named for the textured, fabric-like paper that gave their bright inks a soft, painterly glow. This edition comes from the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection of Boston, and has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back the warmth and detail of the original.
