Darlington, MD: Glen Echo Lodge, U. S. Route 1, Darlington, MD, 3 miles south of Conowingo Dam and 11 miles north of Bel Air
Beautifully designed. Printed on archival paper for modern walls.
This vintage linen postcard captures Glen Echo Lodge along U.S. Route 1 in Darlington, Maryland, a roadside stop for travelers in the era when the highway carried motorists up and down the East Coast. Positioned three miles south of the Conowingo Dam and eleven miles north of Bel Air, the lodge offered lodging and automobile service to passing travelers. Darlington sits in Harford County near the Susquehanna River, and the great Conowingo Dam , completed in 1928 , became one of the region's most recognized landmarks not far from this very scene.
From the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, their textured paper and vivid, saturated colors turning everyday roadside scenes into small works of art. This image comes from the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection of Boston, a publisher renowned for these cheerful, color-rich cards. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back the warmth and detail of the original.
A charming piece of Darlington history for any wall, printed on museum-quality archival paper and available in three unframed sizes. Fast, free U.S. shipping. Printed in the USA.
