About Government Camp, Oregon
Government Camp got its name in 1849 on the old Barlow Road. That year, troops of the Regiment of Mounted Riflemen were forced to leave wagons and supplies at the site. Settlers who came along the road later found the abandoned army wagons and named the camp.
