Greek Revival Mansion in White Castle, LA - 1857 History

This vintage photograph captures a Greek Revival mansion located in White Castle, Iberville Parish, Louisiana. Built in 1857 by John Andrews, the structure features 75 rooms and distinctive architectural elements, including grand columns, a portico, and elaborate parapets. The mansion was later sold to Stone Ware, and the Ware family occupied it until around 1913.

Despite its once-stately presence, the building is now in a ruinous condition, illustrating the passage of time and the impacts of abandonment. This image is part of the Carnegie Survey of the Architecture of the South, a significant documentation effort that showcases the architectural heritage of the region.
