This cheerful "Greetings from Elkton, Maryland" linen postcard carries warm regards from the seat of Cecil County, tucked into the northeastern corner of the state. For much of the early twentieth century, Elkton was famous as a quick-marriage destination: situated on the busy route between Philadelphia and points south, the town drew countless couples thanks to Maryland's lenient marriage laws, earning it a lasting reputation as a wedding capital before the state introduced a waiting period in 1938.
Postcards like this one date from the golden age of American "linen" cards, printed between roughly 1930 and 1945 on textured paper that gave their colors a soft, painterly glow. This edition comes from the Tichnor Brothers Collection of Boston, one of the era's most prolific publishers, and has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL to bring back its original brightness and charm.
