About Heeney, Colorado
Heeney is a community of 74 people in Summit County, Colorado. It dates to 1938, the year Green Mountain Dam was built, and it took its name from Paul Heeney, who owned much of the land along the edge of the new dam. A post office opened under the Heeney name in 1939 and served the community until 1960.
- Named for Paul HeeneyPaul Heeney, who lived from 1894 to 1976, held a large stretch of property beside Green Mountain Dam when the dam went up in 1938. The town was founded that same year and carried his name.
- A post office, 1939 to 1960Heeney had its own post office for a little over two decades, from 1939 until 1960. After it closed, mail for Heeney addresses came through the Silverthorne post office, which still serves the community.
