Elkton, MD: Hellingsworth Manor
Beautifully designed. Printed on archival paper for modern walls.
This vintage linen postcard captures Hellingsworth Manor in Elkton, Maryland, the county seat of Cecil County in the northeastern corner of the state. Situated near the head of the Chesapeake Bay, Elkton became widely known in the early twentieth century as a popular destination for couples seeking quick, no-wait marriages, earning it a lasting reputation as the "Elopement Capital."
From roughly the 1930s through the 1940s, American "linen" postcards reached their golden age, celebrated for their textured paper stock and vivid, saturated color. This edition comes from the work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose images live on today in the renowned Tichnor Brothers Collection. We've carefully restored and color-revived this card here at KNOWOL, bringing its warmth and detail back to life.
A charming piece of Elkton history for any wall, printed on museum-quality archival paper and available in three unframed sizes. Fast, free U.S. shipping. Printed in the USA.
