This vintage photograph by Frances Benjamin Johnston, created in the early 20th century, showcases a historic building in Aldie, Loudoun County, Virginia. Constructed in 1823, the structure was built under the supervision of Thomas Jefferson, designed by architect Captain James Hoban, and was commissioned by President James Monroe. Notably, the first guest of the residence was the Marquis de Lafayette.

The architectural significance of this building lies in its distinct features, including elegant fanlights and doorways that reflect the style of the era. In 1850, Colonel Fairfax acquired the property from the Monroe estate, adding to its rich history.
