This vintage linen postcard captures the "home stretch" at the Havre de Grace Race Track in Havre de Grace, Maryland, where horses thunder toward the finish before a crowd. Located in Harford County near the head of the Chesapeake Bay, the track operated for several decades in the first half of the twentieth century and drew thoroughbred racing fans from across the region.
From roughly 1930 to 1945, American postcards entered their golden age of "linen" printing , a textured stock that gave images their soft, saturated glow. This card comes from the work of Tichnor Bros. Inc. of Boston, whose archive survives today as the celebrated Tichnor Brothers Collection. This edition has been carefully restored and color-revived by KNOWOL.
