About Hope, Arkansas
From the CALS Encyclopedia of Arkansas: "James Loughborough, the railroad companyβs land commissioner, had named the workmenβs camp in honor of his daughter, Hope. The railway company drew the plat of the town and sold the first lots on August 28, 1873."
From the CALS Encyclopedia of Arkansas: "Walter Shiver built the first house near the depot in 1873. The town was incorporated on April 8, 1875, and the first officials were elected May 14."
